SUPPORTING CALD COMMUNITIES

The purpose of this course is to build knowledge, confidence, and skills for workers who provide support to participants from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. In the NDIS context, workers often interact with participants who have unique cultural backgrounds, traditions, and values. By understanding these differences, support workers can avoid misunderstandings, reduce barriers, and deliver person-centred care. The course emphasises cultural awareness, sensitivity, and respect as essential foundations of quality support. It also reinforces compliance with NDIS Practice Standards and relevant Australian laws, ensuring that cultural inclusion is not only good practice but also a legal and ethical responsibility.

Basic

TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE

The purpose of this course is to provide NDIS workers, disability support staff, and aged care professionals with the knowledge and skills to deliver trauma-informed care in line with NDIS Practice Standards and Australian health guidelines.

Trauma-informed care means recognising the widespread impact of trauma, understanding how it shapes behaviour and engagement, and responding in ways that prioritise safety, trust, and empowerment.

This training helps learners identify trauma responses, adapt care approaches, and minimise re-traumatisation while supporting participants to live with dignity, autonomy, and resilience.

It emphasises person-centred approaches, respect for individual communication preferences, and the use of practical strategies such as body language, gestures, assistive communication devices, and supported decision making. By completing this training, learners will understand how to recognise and respond to different forms of non-verbal communication, reduce risks of exclusion, and promote dignity, safety, and empowerment in all interactions.

Intermediate
ADVOCACY AND SELF-DETERMINATION

The purpose of this course is to equip NDIS workers, aged care staff, and disability support professionals with the knowledge and skills to promote participant advocacy and self-determination. It is designed to strengthen staff understanding of rights-based care and to ensure participants are given genuine opportunities to express preferences, make decisions, and access advocacy services where needed.

By completing this course, learners will gain the confidence to balance duty of care with the dignity of risk, supporting participants to live with autonomy, equality, and respect.

GENDER & DISABILITY AWARENESS

The purpose of this course is to build a clear and practical understanding of how gender and disability intersect in care and support services. Many participants experience multiple layers of identity that influence how they access support, express needs, and respond to care environments. When staff overlook gender factors, participants may feel unsafe, disrespected, or excluded, even when their disability needs are technically addressed.

This course equips learners with the knowledge to recognise these dynamics and respond appropriately. It aims to strengthen professional practice by promoting respect for individual identity, compliance with NDIS Practice Standards, and the creation of inclusive environments.

Intermediate

Learners will gain strategies to support wellbeing, reduce risks to safety and participation, and apply evidence-based approaches to everyday practice.
