Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide NDIS workers, disability support staff, and aged care professionals with the knowledge and skills to deliver trauma-informed care in line with NDIS Practice Standards and Australian health guidelines.

Trauma-informed care means recognising the widespread impact of trauma, understanding how it shapes behaviour and engagement, and responding in ways that prioritise safety, trust, and empowerment.

This training helps learners identify trauma responses, adapt care approaches, and minimise re-traumatisation while supporting participants to live with dignity, autonomy, and resilience.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define trauma and explain its impact on physical, psychological, and social wellbeing.
  2. Identify risks of re-traumatisation and barriers to safe, supportive care environments.
  3. Apply trauma-informed communication and support strategies in daily practice.
  4. Align workplace practices with NDIS Practice Standards and compliance requirements.
  5. Develop procedures that foster trust, inclusion, and empowerment in participants.
  6. Demonstrate reflective practice by recognising their own responses and maintaining professional boundaries when supporting individuals affected by trauma.
