Course Description

The purpose of this course is to prepare NDIS and disability support workers to confidently identify, report, and respond to misconduct through safe whistleblowing practices. Whistleblowing is a critical part of maintaining trust and accountability within disability services, as it ensures that misconduct such as fraud, abuse, neglect, or unsafe practices is brought to light.

This training will give workers not only the knowledge of what whistleblowing means but also the confidence to act when required. It reinforces the fact that reporting misconduct is a responsibility shared by everyone in the workplace, and it highlights the legal protections available to workers who make disclosures in good faith.

By the end of the course, learners will understand how their actions contribute to safeguarding participants and upholding the integrity of the NDIS sector.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this training session, learners will be able to:

  1. Define whistleblowing and types of misconduct in disability support settings. Learners will understand what whistleblowing means, how it differs from ordinary complaints, and the common forms of misconduct that may occur in disability services, such as fraud, abuse, or breaches of confidentiality.
  2. Identify risks, breaches, and consequences of failing to report misconduct. Learners will examine the potential harm that misconduct can cause to participants, staff, and organisations, as well as the legal and ethical consequences of ignoring such issues.
  3. Apply safe and effective reporting procedures. Learners will gain practical knowledge on how to use internal and external reporting channels, how to maintain confidentiality, and how to document concerns correctly.
  4. Align practice with policies, protocols, and compliance requirements. Learners will learn how whistleblowing connects with the NDIS Code of Conduct, NDIS Practice Standards, and Australian whistleblower protection laws, ensuring their actions are legally compliant.
  5. Build a workplace culture of transparency, respect, and accountability. Learners will explore how open communication and ethical behaviour contribute to safer, fairer, and more effective disability services, where reporting misconduct is encouraged and supported.
