Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip learners with essential knowledge and practical competencies to effectively identify, respond to, and report incidents, accidents, and emergencies within NDIS and community support environments. Learners will gain a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities under the NDIS Practice Standards, including the correct procedures for notification, documentation, and communication during critical situations. This course supports the development of a proactive and safety-focused culture, ensuring that all participants receive high-quality, safe, and person-centred care. It also promotes compliance, transparency, and accountability within service organisations.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the definitions and categories of reportable incidents in line with NDIS Commission requirements and differentiate between minor incidents, accidents, and serious reportable events.
  2. Identify procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies, ensuring participant safety, immediate support, and proper escalation within required timeframes.
  3. Apply accurate reporting and documentation practices using approved organisational forms and digital systems while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
  4. Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement by participating in debriefings, reviews, and learning from incident outcomes to prevent recurrence.
  5. Demonstrate ethical and legal responsibility when managing incidents by upholding the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of all participants and adhering to relevant legislation and NDIS Practice Standards.
