Course Description

The purpose of this course is to build the competency, confidence, and professional accountability of NDIS workers and staff involved in recruitment, management, and compliance. It provides a structured understanding of how NDIS Worker Screening operates as part of the broader safeguarding framework, ensuring that only suitable and trustworthy individuals deliver supports and services to people with disability. Learners will gain the ability to interpret legal requirements, assess worker suitability, and respond appropriately to changes in risk. This course promotes ethical decision-making, awareness of professional obligations, and the importance of transparent and consistent screening practices within every NDIS-registered organisation.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this training session, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the Purpose and Legal Basis of NDIS Worker Screening Learners will understand the legislative and regulatory frameworks that guide worker screening, including the NDIS Practice Standards and Worker Screening Rules 2018. They will be able to describe why screening is critical for participant safety and how it fits within Australia’s national safeguarding system.
  2. Describe Key Risk Management Principles in the NDIS Environment Learners will identify how risk manifests in daily operations, from recruitment to service delivery, and how systematic screening supports broader risk control measures. They will recognise the relationship between risk assessment, worker conduct, and participant wellbeing.
  3. Apply Screening and Risk Procedures Correctly in Workplace Settings Learners will demonstrate the ability to verify worker clearances, record screening data accurately, respond to alerts or suspensions, and maintain proper documentation in accordance with NDIS Commission expectations.
  4. Recognise Responsibilities for Ongoing Compliance and Reporting Learners will articulate the duties of both employers and workers in maintaining valid clearances, monitoring risk, and reporting concerns or misconduct. They will also understand how continuous improvement processes strengthen organisational compliance and build a culture of safety and accountability.
