Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip NDIS workers, coordinators, and related professionals with the knowledge and skills required to protect participant privacy, safeguard confidential information, and manage data responsibly. In the NDIS environment, participants often share sensitive details such as medical histories, disability needs, and personal goals. Handling this information carries both legal and ethical responsibilities. This course helps learners understand what privacy, data protection, and confidentiality mean in practice, how breaches can harm participants and organisations, and how compliance with the Privacy Act 1988, the NDIS Practice Standards, and workplace policies ensures trust and accountability. By the end of the course, learners will be prepared to apply safe practices and protect the dignity of every participant.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this training session, learners will be able to:

Define key concepts: Explain the meaning of privacy, data protection, and confidentiality within NDIS and community service contexts.
Recognise risks and breaches: Identify common risks of poor privacy practices and understand their impact on participants, staff, and organisations.
Apply correct procedures: Demonstrate how to collect, store, share, and protect personal information in line with workplace policies and legal requirements.
Understand compliance obligations: Outline the responsibilities under the Privacy Act 1988, the Australian Privacy Principles, and NDIS Practice Standards.
Promote a culture of confidentiality: Apply strategies to embed privacy and confidentiality into daily work, including communication with participants, families, and colleagues.
