Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide disability support and NDIS workers with a strong understanding of human rights principles and their application in daily practice. Human rights are not abstract concepts but practical safeguards that ensure dignity, safety, and equality for every participant. By completing this training, workers will develop the ability to identify when rights are at risk, prevent breaches through respectful practice, and respond appropriately when concerns arise. The course also aims to build awareness of the legal and ethical frameworks in Australia that guide service delivery, ensuring compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards and related legislation.

Course Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define human rights and their importance in disability support by explaining how universal entitlements apply to people with disability and why they are critical for ethical and lawful care.
  2. Identify risks and breaches of rights in service delivery including neglect, restrictive practices, discrimination, and privacy concerns.
  3. Apply safe and compliant workplace procedures that protect participants’ dignity, safety, and autonomy in daily care and communication.
  4. Align practice with policies, protocols, and compliance requirements as outlined in the NDIS Practice Standards, Disability Discrimination Act 1992, and organisational frameworks.
  5. Build a workplace culture of respect, dignity, and accountability by embedding human rights principles into team practice, reflective learning, and continuous improvement.
