Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide NDIS workers with a structured and comprehensive framework for recognising, preventing, and responding to abuse within disability support settings. Abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, and neglect, and often it is not immediately obvious. Workers need the skills to identify early signs and respond appropriately to safeguard participants. This training equips learners with the confidence to take action when concerns arise, ensuring responses are safe, compliant, and respectful of participant rights. By completing this course, workers will strengthen their role in upholding the NDIS vision of safety, dignity, and empowerment for every participant.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define abuse and explain its types in NDIS contexts – Develop a clear understanding of what constitutes abuse and recognise the wide range of forms it may take, from overt harm to subtle neglect.
  2. Identify risks and consequences of abuse – Analyse the dangers associated with unsafe practices and understand the severe impact abuse can have on participants, organisations, and workers.
  3. Apply safe procedures for responding to abuse – Gain practical skills in reporting, documenting, and escalating concerns in accordance with NDIS and organisational protocols.
  4. Align practice with compliance standards and policies – Ensure that daily work practices are consistent with NDIS Practice Standards, organisational safeguarding policies, and Australian legal requirements.
  5. Build a culture of respect, dignity, and accountability – Contribute to a positive workplace culture where participants’ rights are respected, staff act with integrity, and abuse is actively prevented through vigilance and teamwork.
