Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide workers with the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to emergencies, including fire, natural disasters, medical crises, and other critical incidents. Learners will gain an understanding of organisational emergency policies, personal responsibilities during evacuations, and the importance of communication and teamwork under pressure. The course emphasises the use of first response procedures, evacuation planning, and compliance with workplace health and safety requirements. By completing this course, workers will be able to act calmly and effectively in emergencies, ensuring participant and staff safety while meeting NDIS Practice Standards for safe environments and incident management.

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify common types of emergencies and understand organisational emergency procedures.
  2. Explain worker responsibilities in emergency preparedness and evacuation.
  3. Apply principles of fire safety, evacuation planning, and first response actions.
  4. Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork during emergencies.
  5. Recognise the importance of incident reporting, documentation, and postincident review.
  6. Support participants, including those with additional needs, during evacuation and emergency situations.
