The purpose of this course is to equip NDIS workers, disability support staff, and carers with the knowledge and confidence to safely support participants who have a tracheostomy. Tracheostomy care is a highly sensitive area of support that requires workers to understand the basic function of the tracheostomy, common risks, and safe procedures for everyday assistance.
This course is not designed to replace clinical nursing responsibilities, but rather to ensure support workers recognize their role, work within their scope of practice, and apply best practice infection control measures. By the end of the session, learners will appreciate the importance of vigilance, dignity, and compliance when assisting participants with tracheostomy support.
