Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip NDIS support workers, aged care staff, and other frontline carers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to safely administer subcutaneous (SC) injections. The training ensures workers understand the anatomy of the skin, correct injection techniques, common risks, and the importance of infection prevention.

By completing this course, learners will be able to deliver SC injections in a way that is safe, person-centred, and compliant with Australian healthcare standards. The ultimate aim is to improve participant outcomes while maintaining dignity, independence, and trust in care settings.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

Define subcutaneous injections and explain their role in disability and aged care contexts.
Identify common risks and hazards associated with SC injections, including infection and incorrect site selection.
Demonstrate correct procedures for preparing, administering, and safely disposing of SC injections.
Apply workplace policies and compliance requirements, including NDIS Practice Standards and infection control guidelines.
Communicate effectively with participants to reduce anxiety, ensure informed consent, and maintain dignity.

Contribute to a culture of safety and accountability by documenting procedures and reflecting on practice improvements.
