Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide staff with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to safely transport NDIS participants while upholding their dignity and wellbeing. Transport safety is more than just driving from one place to another. It involves identifying risks, applying correct procedures, and maintaining compliance with both legal and organisational standards. Staff will learn how to manage diverse participant needs, respond to emergencies, and embed safety into everyday practice.

By the end of the training, learners will understand that safe transport is not only a legal requirement but also a core responsibility in delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

Course Outcomes

By completing this training, learners will be able to:

  1. Define transport safety and explain its importance in NDIS contexts. Learners will understand transport safety as a core part of service delivery that protects participants, workers, and the community, ensuring dignity, reliability, and trust in NDIS services.
  2. Identify risks and hazards associated with participant transport. Learners will gain the ability to recognise common risks such as vehicle faults, unsafe driving behaviours, environmental hazards, and participant-specific vulnerabilities.
  3. Apply safe and compliant transport procedures. Learners will develop the skills to use correct loading, restraint, and emergency response practices that align with road safety and disability support standards.
  4. Align transport practice with NDIS Practice Standards and organisational policies. Learners will understand how compliance frameworks guide safe practice and ensure that transport procedures meet both regulatory and internal requirements.
  5. Promote a culture of accountability and respect in participant transport. Learners will learn strategies to foster professional behaviour, respectful communication, and shared responsibility, ensuring every participant is transported with dignity and care.
