Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to support participants living with neurological conditions in disability care environments. Neurological conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, acquired brain injury, and stroke can significantly impact a participant’s independence, safety, and wellbeing. By understanding these conditions and their associated risks, learners will be able to deliver support that is safe, person-centred, and aligned with individual care plans. This course also ensures that learners understand how to integrate their daily practice with compliance requirements under the NDIS Practice Standards, workplace policies, and Australian healthcare guidelines. The ultimate goal is to build both professional capability and confidence, ensuring that participants receive high-quality, dignified, and effective care.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define key neurological conditions relevant to disability support. Learners will understand the causes, signs, symptoms, and impacts of common neurological conditions encountered in NDIS contexts.
  2. Identify risks and hazards related to neurological conditions. Learners will be able to assess environmental, behavioural, and health-related risks that may arise for participants, applying risk management principles in their daily work.
  3. Apply safe, person-centred care procedures. Learners will practise strategies to support participants while maintaining dignity, independence, and compliance with care plans and workplace protocols.
  4. Align practice with NDIS Practice Standards and Australian guidelines. Learners will develop an understanding of the regulatory framework, ensuring that all actions are legally compliant and support continuous quality improvement within their organisation.
