Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip learners with the advanced knowledge and practical strategies required to support participants living with epilepsy in both disability and aged care environments.

While many workers may already have a basic understanding of epilepsy, this course goes further by focusing on complex seizure types, risks, and best practice management. Learners will be guided through practical procedures that improve safety, dignity, and independence for participants.

By completing this training, workers will feel more confident and capable when providing care, ensuring that responses to seizures and daily support align with national standards and professional expectations.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define and explain complex seizure types – Develop an advanced understanding of epilepsy, recognising the wide range of seizure presentations and their impact on daily life.
  2. Identify risks, hazards, and ethical considerations – Evaluate the safety, dignity, and compliance issues involved in supporting individuals with epilepsy.
  3. Apply emergency and recovery procedures – Demonstrate safe, effective, and person-centred responses during and after seizure events.
  4. Align practice with NDIS and Australian clinical guidelines – Ensure that all strategies, policies, and care approaches meet national standards, reducing risk for both participants and organisations.
