Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip NDIS workers and support staff with practical knowledge, skills, and confidence in infection prevention and control. Infection control in community settings is not just about stopping the spread of germs, it is about protecting vulnerable participants, maintaining dignity, and ensuring services are delivered in a safe and compliant way.

Staff will learn how to recognise infection risks, apply correct hygiene practices, and follow organisational protocols. The training also ensures workers understand their legal and professional obligations under NDIS Practice Standards and Australian Guidelines, while building a culture of responsibility and care across their workplace.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Define infection control and explain its importance in community care. Learners will understand infection control principles and why they are critical in safeguarding participants’ health and wellbeing.
  • Identify risks and triggers for infection spread. Learners will be able to recognise everyday situations, such as poor hygiene or inadequate cleaning, that increase the risk of infection in community environments.
  • Apply safe and compliant infection control procedures. Learners will demonstrate practical strategies including correct hand hygiene, PPE use, and safe waste disposal in alignment with workplace procedures.
  • Align practice with NDIS Practice Standards and organisational policies. Learners will apply knowledge to ensure their daily actions meet compliance requirements while maintaining accountability.
  • Build a culture of safety, respect, and accountability. Learners will contribute to workplaces where infection control is shared responsibility, participants are respected, and staff feel empowered to uphold safety.
