Course Description

The purpose of this course is to build a clear and practical understanding of Interim Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs) within the NDIS framework. Interim Plans are created when there is an urgent need to manage behaviours of concern that may present a risk to the person or others, and where restrictive practices might be required before a comprehensive plan can be developed.

Learners will gain the knowledge and confidence to identify when an IBSP is necessary, understand the required documentation, and ensure all actions remain compliant with the NDIS Practice Standards. The course aims to help practitioners deliver safe, ethical, and lawful support that upholds the participant’s rights and dignity.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the purpose and conditions for developing an Interim Behaviour Support Plan under the NDIS framework.
  2. Identify the required elements and documentation standards for IBSPs, including restrictive practice authorisation and incident reporting.
  3. Apply ethical and legal principles when implementing short-term restrictive practices to ensure participant safety and rights are protected.
  4. Demonstrate how to monitor, review, and transition from an interim plan to a comprehensive behaviour support plan.
  5. Collaborate effectively with team members, families, and the NDIS Commission to maintain transparency and compliance.
