Course Description

AI Literacy for Employees is a practical workplace course designed to help staff understand, use, and evaluate artificial intelligence in a safe, responsible, and confident way. Modern organisations increasingly rely on AI assisted tools for communication, information processing, administration, customer service, analysis, and problem solving. This creates an essential need for employees to know how AI works at a practical level, how to use it effectively, and how to recognise its limitations and risks.

This course introduces learners to the core concepts of AI and explains how AI systems operate in everyday workplace tools. Learners explore the opportunities AI creates, such as improved efficiency and enhanced creativity, while also learning how to identify risks including bias, misinformation, privacy concerns, and over-reliance on automated outputs. The course helps employees understand the importance of human oversight, critical thinking, and ethical judgment in every AI assisted task.

Learners also examine the key skill areas that support safe AI engagement, including reviewing outputs for accuracy, managing sensitive information, asking strong questions, evaluating sources, and applying AI in a human centred way. The course provides applied examples and workplace based scenarios that help learners practise AI decision making in real contexts. By the end of the course, participants will be ready to work confidently with AI tools, support organisational safety standards, and contribute to an AI capable workforce.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

1. Explain what AI is and describe how it is used in workplace tools and systems
Learners will understand the general principles behind AI models, how AI assists tasks, and how AI fits into daily workflows. They will be able to identify when AI is being used and describe the difference between human reasoning and AI pattern recognition.

2. Identify the benefits and limitations of AI use in the workplace
Learners will understand the practical strengths of AI, including speed, organisation, and idea generation, while recognising its limitations such as incomplete reasoning, hallucinated content, bias, and lack of contextual understanding. They will learn why AI requires human judgment at every stage.

3. Apply safe and ethical AI practices aligned with organisational expectations
Learners will understand how to protect privacy, avoid inappropriate data input, prevent harmful outputs, and follow workplace governance rules. They will be able to use AI responsibly and assess whether a task is suitable for AI support.

4. Use critical thinking to evaluate AI generated information
Learners will be able to review AI outputs for accuracy, fairness, and completeness. They will know how to question inconsistencies, check sources, identify bias, and avoid acting on incorrect or misleading information.

5. Use AI tools to support communication, problem solving, creativity, and productivity
Learners will practise using AI as a partner for drafting, summarising, planning, brainstorming, refining ideas, and exploring options. They will understand how to shape prompts, revise outputs, and incorporate human insight into final work.

6. Collaborate with AI in a way that preserves human values and workplace professionalism
Learners will understand how AI affects teams, customers, and organisational culture. They will maintain empathy, fairness, and human centred thinking while using AI to support their tasks.

7. Demonstrate readiness for future AI enabled roles and workflows
Learners will develop adaptability, curiosity, and awareness of emerging AI tools. They will be prepared to build long term capability, learn continuously, and support innovation within their organisation.
